It is an immutable cycle that defines the essence of existence. Despite their apparent disparity, these two fundamental life events share profound similarities. Both birth and death not only impact the individual soul but also leave an indelible imprint on those in its sphere of influence. In their collaborative creation titled "AnMa," Kassiyet and Nitya offer a profound exploration of this cyclic experience, drawing from their personal encounters with loss and new beginnings. Inspired by the departure of Kassiyet's mother and the arrival of Nitya's daughter, Trayee, this piece serves as a poignant tribute to the intricate interplay of life and its inevitable transitions. Through their artistry, Kassiyet and Nitya pay homage to the enduring bonds of love and the eternal journey of the soul. This 2023 Canadian comedy-drama, a poignant creation of writer and director Fawzia Mirza, marked her auspicious foray into full-length directorial endeavors. Within this cinematic opus, Kaur portrays the complex character Azra, a Pakistani-Canadian woman grappling with the multifaceted layers of identity and familial dynamics amidst personal revelations, notably her journey as a lesbian woman. It provided a unique opportunity for dancers to be together in a shared creative space, fostering a supportive and inspiring environment for artistic growth. During the residency, dancers engaged in a variety of activities aimed at enhancing their skills and nurturing their creativity. The sessions focused on strengthening nritta (pure dance) and technique, ensuring that participants honed their physical abilities and mastered the technical aspects of their art form. Through rigorous training and practice, dancers were able to refine their movements and achieve greater precision and control in their performances. ​ Integral to the residency was the participation of Dr. Anita R Ratnam , an esteemed senior professional artist renowned for her expertise and innovation in the field of dance. As an invited guest, Dr. Ratnam led specialized creative dance sessions, sharing her wealth of knowledge, insights, and artistic vision with participants.
